Day 1: Arrival in Kunming & the Great Hotel Search
- Morning (7:00 AM - 10:00 AM - Assuming I Don’t Over-Sleep): Fly from… well, that part is still TBD. Let's just say it's a long flight. I'm already dreading the flight delays, the questionable airplane food, and the inevitable screaming baby. I'm packing earplugs, a blankie, and a bottle of my favorite emergency chocolate. ¡Ay, la pregunta del millón! Vale, sí, lo del "paraíso oculto" suena un poco a palabrería de marketing. Pero... ¡espera! Déjame contarte... fui escéptico, lo confieso. Llevo viajando años, y ya tengo el detector de exageraciones bastante afinado. Pero a ver, Kunming ya de por sí es un poco "oculta" para el viajero occidental, ¿no? Y el Gya... bueno, sí, diría que sí, que es *un poco* un paraíso. Sobre todo cuando llevas tres días seguidos comiendo fideos aceitosos en la calle. La tranquilidad, el diseño, la cama... ¡bendita cama! No es la perfección absoluta, eh, no esperes un edén celestial con ángeles masajeándote los pies. Pero después de un día explorando el mercado de las flores (que, por cierto, ¡huele a gloria!), volver al Gya es como... despojarse de todo el polvo del viaje.
¿Cómo son las habitaciones? ¿Son como aparecen en las fotos bonitas?
Las fotos... ¡ah, esas fotos! Sí, son muy bonitas. ¿Y la realidad? Bueno, casi. Diría que un 95% de "bonito de las fotos". La habitación que me tocó (una con vistas a un patio MUY mono) era exactamente como la había visto. Amplia, luminosa, con ese toque de diseño minimalista que tanto me gusta (o eso creo, porque a veces no entiendo nada de diseño, pero me gusta). El baño... ¡ah, el baño! Limpio como una patena, con una ducha que era un festival de agua caliente después de un día explorando el lago Dianchi (que, por cierto, ¡hace un frío que pela!).
Lo único "malo" (y lo pongo entre comillas porque no es realmente malo) es que... bueno, soy un poco torpe y me choqué un poco contra la esquina de la mesa de noche un par de veces. ¡Auch! Creo que mi pierna ahora tiene un morado de recuerdo. Pero nada grave, vamos...
¿Es difícil llegar al Gya desde el aeropuerto/estación de tren?
¡Para nada! En realidad, es bastante fácil. Yo llegué desde la estación de tren. Tomé un taxi... y aquí viene la anécdota. El taxista, ¡era un crack! No hablaba NADA de inglés, yo no hablo NADA de chino... ¡pero nos entendimos a la perfección! Con gestos, con la app del traductor (que a veces traduce cosas MUY raras), con risas... Fue una experiencia. El trayecto fue rapidísimo, y el taxi me dejó justo en la puerta. Si prefieres el metro, también es una opción muy válida. En general, la ciudad es bastante accesible.
¿Qué tal el desayuno? ¿Hay opciones occidentales para los que no somos muy aventureros con la comida china?
¡El desayuno! Ahí es donde el Gya se ganó mi corazón (y mi estómago, claro). ¡Una maravilla! Sé que soy dramático, pero de verdad, era INCREÍBLE. No solo había las típicas opciones chinas (que yo, siendo sincero, me quedé un poco en plan "mmm, interesante..."), sino que también había... ¡tocino! ¡Sí, bacon crujiente! Huevos revueltos, tostadas, mermelada... Y lo mejor de todo: ¡café de verdad! Porque ya sabéis, en algunos sitios el café es como... agua sucia. Pero aquí, ¡café de verdad!
Y, de paso, conocí a una señora encantadora, una chica alemana que llevaba ya meses viviendo en China y me dio mil consejos sobre Kunming. ¡Un tesoro! Me dijo dónde encontrar los mejores dim sum y me avisó sobre lo picante que puede llegar a ser la comida local... ¡menos mal que me lo dijo!
¿Qué tal el personal? ¿Son amables? ¿Hablan inglés?
El personal... ¡ay, el personal! ¡Un 10! Son amables, serviciales, y aunque no todos dominan el inglés a la perfección, hacen TODO lo posible por ayudarte. Incluso me ayudaron (a través de un traductor online) a pedir comida a domicilio un día que no me apetecía salir. Un detalle. Y una sonrisa siempre, siempre. Eso es lo que más valoro en un hotel. Una sonrisa, un "hola", un "¿en qué puedo ayudarle?". Y en el Gya, eso abunda.
¿Qué hay cerca del hotel? ¿Hay cosas interesantes que ver y hacer?
¡Por supuesto! El Gya está situado en una zona bastante céntrica, lo que significa que tienes todo a mano. A poca distancia tienes el lago Cuihu (muy recomendable para pasear y ver a la gente local haciendo Tai Chi al amanecer), el Jardín Botánico, y varios templos. También hay muchos restaurantes y tiendas cerca, así que no te aburrirás. Yo, personalmente, me pasé horas en el mercado de las flores (¡ya lo mencioné!), y me compré un montón de cosas que no necesito, pero que me encantan. ¡Un peligro!
¿Recomendarías el Gya Hotel? ¿Lo recomendarías a tus amigos?
¡Sí! Absolutamente. Lo recomendaría sin dudarlo. No es el hotel más lujoso del mundo, no es el sitio más barato, pero la experiencia general es fantástica. La ubicación es buena, el personal es excelente, las habitaciones son bonitas y limpias, y el desayuno... ¡el desayuno es ESPECTACULAR! Además, el ambiente es relajado y tranquilo, ideal para desconectar y disfrutar de la ciudad.
Lo recomendaría a mis amigos, a mi familia, ¡hasta a mi peor enemigo! (Bueno, a lo mejor a mi peor enemigo no, porque no quiero que disfrute tanto como yo... ¡ja!). En serio, si vas a Kunming, ¡reserva en el Gya Hotel! No te arrepentirás.
